Vodafone has released BlackBerry Storm OS 4.7.0.141. This will only work on the BlackBerry Storm 9500 on Vodafone. Please do not install this if you are a Verizon customer using the BlackBerry Storm 9530.
Yet another unofficial BlackBerry Storm 9530 OS has been leaked. BlackBerry OS 4.7.0.99 is making the rounds in the usual corners of the Internet. Some of our readers have installed the update and you can find discussions on the latest update in our BlackBerry forums.
Verizon is expected to release the much anticipated BlackBerry Storm on Monday, November 17th. Yes, it appears we are just days way from the release of the Storm. This news comes by way of a ZDNet who happened upon the info while speaking to a customer service rep. Of course, the rep could have the incorrect information, but here's what we know:
Verizon has completed Storm training with their tech support staff
The company is planning to make the BlackBerry Storm available next Monday
There is pent up demand for the Storm from anxious folks with expiring contracts
With the new Verizon BlackBerry Storm commercial making the rounds last night during primetime, it's safe to say the Storm itself might be ready for primetime. I happened to visit Best Buy today who gladly accepted my Storm pre-order, but they did not offer up any information on the release.
Sure the BlackBerry Bold was released on AT&T this week, but it's seems the Storm has been grabbing the headlines. This latest video comes courtesy of megawhat.tv in the UK and provides more insight into the BlackBerry Storm's SurePress screen. You can scroll through icons, but you need actually click to select an activity. The Storm is RIM's answer to the iPhone, offering up copy & paste, MMS and the ability to record video.
Screenshots have emerged courtesy of BGR that are reportedly from a Vodafone BlackBerry Storm. Not much to see here and that's reason for concern if these are indeed the real deal. For a phone that is positioned to compete against the iPhone, we'd at least expect some flashy icons.
Verizon will be the first US carrier to deliver the BlackBerry Storm and it's expected to be on shelves sometime in early November. Outside of the US, the standard is GSM and the Verizon Storm is CDMA flavored, so where does that leave the rest of the world. It appears that RIM has GSM version of the Storm already in the works as evidenced by the leaked datasheet. This could be marketed as the Thunder, but it's definitely in the BlackBerry 9500 family.
