The Apple MacBook notebooks do not have 3G built-in, but it's relatively easy to use the BlackBerry Storm's 3G connection. CNET's Brooke Crothers compared an HP 2510p ultraportable with built-in Verizon EV-DO modem to a MacBook Air using the Storm's 3G connection and the results were impressive. The MacBook Air / Storm combination saw download speeds of up to 1,088 Kbps (with an average of 500-600 Kbps) compared to 1392 Kbps on the HP 2510p. The following are directions for using your BlackBerry Storm as a modem with a MacBook.

Pair the two Bluetooth devices, then configure the phone on the MacBook side, telling it during the configuration process that you want to "Access the Internet with your phone's data connection." In Verizon's case, the account name is yourphonenumber@vzw3.com Then, in the next screen, you select "vendor: other" and "Verizon support, PC5220."

Yet another unofficial BlackBerry Storm 9530 OS has been leaked. BlackBerry OS 4.7.0.99 is making the rounds in the usual corners of the Internet. Some of our readers have installed the update and you can find discussions on the latest update in our BlackBerry forums.

Hedone Designs has released a new theme for the BlackBerry Curve 8300 series and BlackBerry 8800 series. HD StormLike TodayPlus is the closest you can get to a Storm look-a-like on your pre-Storm BlackBerry. The HD StormLike theme retails for $7.00 and is available in the Everything Berry Software Store.

BlackBerry has released a new firmware update 4.7.0.75  for the BlackBerry Storm 9530 for Verizon Wireless. The new update is available via BlackBerry Desktop and promises a host of bug fixes and improvements. The new update reportedly fixes the lag that occurs with the accelerometer when switching between portrait and landscape. UPDATE: This update is now available via BlackBerry Desktop.

You can put away the knives and the screwdrivers, thanks to Brian at CES911. He performed what he calls the "torture test" on the BlackBerry Storm. It appears the screen on the Storm is resistant to scratches. I wouldn't rush to put your Storm in your pocket with a set of keys, but this is encouraging news for the longevity of your BlackBerry. Anyone want to put the Bold to the test?

BlackBerry Storm Review

Posted by: Christopher Meinck

The BlackBerry Storm released just over a week ago here in the US on Verizon Wireless and represents a major departure from what we’ve come to expect from a BlackBerry. Gone is the QWERTY keyboard, replaced with a super large 480x360 pixel display  and a new clickable screen or what BlackBerry likes to call SurePress. Is it enough to leave your current BlackBerry or perhaps prevent those who were considering a jump to the iPhone? Read on for our comprehensive review of the BlackBerry Storm.
