Hi and welcome to EB:

I am not sure I am understanding you completely, but some basic questions:
1) When you say you can "text nok" and "compose of recieve a call" what do those mean?
2) What carrier was the phone used on?
3) What carrier is the SIM card for?
4) Is the phone locked or unlocked?

Hi,

sorry i meant that i can send and recieve text messages ok, but when i try to make a call it tells me that i can only make emergency calls and if i call my number it goes straight to my voicemail.

the carrier it was used on was rogers and the sim card is for rogers also.
i am pretty sure it's un locked but how do check that???

Thanks
Tony

Hi Tony:

If the phone is Rogers and the SIM is Rogers locked or unlocked doesn't matter. Are you using a personal SIM in a BB that was assigned to a company account? Do you know if there is an IT security policy in place?

Sounds like there may be a security policy on it, but check:
Go to Options > Security Options > General Settings > Scroll to bottom
Does it say anything?

If there is a security policy on it you may have to wipe the device.

If there is no policy on the device, do you know if the SIM was properly activated? Can you try it in a known working phone to test functionality?

Let's see what you find and let us know so we can proceed from there.

Hi Steve,

i am using a personal SIM in a BB that was assisgned to a company account.
so i did what you told me and at the bottom is says IT policy Name: Data only
then it has the last updated date of jun 26/07, so does this mean that it has a IT security Policy???

Thanks
Tony

Hi Tony:

Yes, this means there is an IT policy installed and from what you wrote, it would appear it is working and only allowing data to flow.

Before we discuss wiping the device, is this BB now yours personally? Do you still work for the company that owned it? Do they know you are using it personally?

I ask because attempting to wipe the device does have risk as it is a hack. If reconnected to the corporate network the original IT policy will be reinstalled making this a futile exercise.

If you still work for the company and they are allowing you to use the device for personal use then you really should talk to the BB Admin to see if they would remove the policy for you. That would be the best approach.

What say you?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

i do still work for the company and i am still waiting to see if they will give it to me for personal use.
i'll let you know what they say.

question, i was wondering how the person that was using the BB before make calls. i am pretty sure that he didnt use it for Data only. if it was Data only, wouldnt it need a SIM to operate??

Tony
