How hard was it?
So how hard was it to do this? I have a BB 8830 for work that my company pays for, and we just got word that they will *not* be replacing BlackBerry devices going forward, due to the economy and my company's budgets. But the device I have now has a couple big scratches on the screen, and the side rail has a big chunk broken off it. And even though they won't replace devices, they'd pay for parts I am sure.
So... was it hard? I have taken my trackball out to clean it once or twice, so I have that skill level, but not much more than that.
Also, I would love to know what your thoughts are on the screen that they sell for the 8830. http://cnn.cn/shop/blackberry-8830-b...on-p-1818.html
Would that solve my screen scratch issue? It scares the crap out of me to think of taking it apart, but it would be totally worth it if it fixed the scratched screen, and if I could replace the side rail(s) too. I'd probably replace the track ball at the same time... if it's not too hard to do the other stuff.
Thoughts? Suggestions?

It was actually pretty easy. Make sure you watch a few take apart videos before you do it to make sure you know what you're doing. I can't check right now what screen you wanted to replace it with, but your actual screen is fine. Its just the housing that's scratched. All you'll need is the front housing if its just the screen. You can order side rails separately, but it doesn't come with the buttons and putting the buttons on the new rails from the old one isn't the best thing to do IMO. Make sure you get the correct torxdriver and case opening tool.
EDIT: Just saw the link you posted. Yes that will solve your screen scratch issue.
