With the 8830, you can use it in the U.S. on it's carrier's CDMA network and then you can pop in a sim card and use the GSM of the country you travel to outside the U.S., depending on which carrier you have, the the GSM portion maybe unlocked. Verizon for one locks the sim to just it's parent company Vodafone's network overseas.

If this is really the case and you travel around the world a lot this might be just what you might be looking for. I think that if I traveled that much I would probably use it.

My last job I traveled between the US and Europe...For me the best bet was to get a Blackberry through T-Mobile (GSM) and use it everywhere without the hassle.

I have traveled all over the world with my 8830 and have found it to be just what I needed. I have gone from the US to Europe to the Middle East and haven't had to change the sim card. The only drawback is that you are charged the fees of the particular country for those countries that are not covered by your provider. It has really been a lifesaver for me.

Hi Dennis Franics and welcome to EB. I hope you enjoy your time with us and that you visit and post often.

The only international travel I have done with my 8830 was to Mexico and it was truly seamless. Sprint did have coverage there and the phone didn't miss a beat. Data was full service too. I don't pay for the phone so I didn't see what, if any additional charges there may have been, but my company didn't come to me yelling so it couldn't have been that bad I suppose.....
