Default Apps Questions

Can anyone tell me how to move apps to the SD card, and what else the card can be used for? Also, I am used to OTA sync with Treo & MotoQ - is there an OTA or Bluetooth sync with the 8800 series? If not, what is the benefit to pairing the BB with my PC via Bluetooth? Thanks

Hi:

My understanding is that apps cannot be moved to cards. The only items that can be placed on cards are media-type items such as videos, pictures, songs and ringtones.

I believe the Office-type app, eOffice can store documents on the card, but only from within the app.

This is an issue I am concerned with, but I have to see how it shakes out. I have just added my first two non-standard apps and it has not killed the memory so I am cautiously optomistic.

What did happen was a pleasant surprise. I was watching the available memory drop daily to almost below 9mb in eight days and I installed a skin that required a battery pull to finish the install. After that I was back up to 16-17mb free memory. The drop also now seems less drastic, but I have to watch it for awhile.

I hope this helps....

Here is a very general method to free up some memory.

This is a very detailed procedure to free up lots, but is very involved.

Hope this helps....

Default Installing Blackberry Apps on to a MicroSD Card?

I can't believe that you can't install Blackberry apps on to a MicroSD memory card! Hopefully someone out there will confirm this, tell us how to. I'm using a 4GB! MicroSD card in my Blackberry 8820 and would rather use this for extra apps not valuable internal memory. http://palmtopman.blog.co.uk / www.palmtopman.com

Hi palmtop man and welcome to EB:

Did you not believe what I posted earlier? It is true, you cannot install apps on the card. You can store them on the card, but only as a file on a removable drive. The installation has to be to device memory. Most BB apps are small, but the 8820 and my 8830 do have limited memory so you have to watch what you install.

There has been talk for some time that installing apps to the card might be coming, but as of yet, no.

I was used to being able to do that on my old Treo, but alas, not on the BB.

However, since the BB doesn't crash I am actually able to use the apps I have installed unlike the old Treo....

BTW...You aren't supposed to link to your site and blog, but there doesn't appear to be a competetive issue so I will leave the links alone...

Please visit and post often....I hope you do spend some time with us to share your expertise and the experience of discovering BBs. If I scanned your blog properly it appears like you have just jumped into the BB pool very recently.

Do take a look at our stickies as I think you will find some help with the transition and most of my posts relate directly to the 88XX series....

As to regard to pairing your BB with your PC, I do believe you can sync via bluetooth. I haven't attempted to do this yet, so I am not sure. BT pairing is also useful when you use a tethering plan through your carrier. It allows you to connect to the internet on your PC through your BB without having to dig out your data cable.

And here is the RIM KB04132 article on DM connectivity with BlueTooth....

I am on BES so I can't give you any personal experiences about it.

Even though the original question is quite old I figured I would post this in case someone hits it using a search engine....
