Default Verizon activation bricking smart phones

Hey guys i just got my 8830 world edition and went to activate on verizon. i was using the lg dare and for some reason after the activation the phone can not receive or make calls. all it says is called failed. i had this same problem with a motorola q. the funny thing is i activated the q on my dads line no problem but after i went to the store its like the verizon activation is programing for the wrong phone and it is essentialy bricking the phone. has any one had this problem and how did you fix it.

Hi again:

I think you just answered the questions I asked in your first post, thanks!

A few basics....Is the 8830 you have branded as Verizon? After the activation did you perform a Battery Pull? With the phone on, pull the battery, count to 20 and replace the battery. Allow it to reboot fully. Anything?

Next, on the main icon screen, select Manage Connections. What do you see Next to Mobile Network and is the box selected? Is there a green circle with a check mark in it on the right?

What does Services Status show when you select it? The Mobile Network Provider should be Verizon.

Next, on the icon screen go to the Options Icon > Advanced Options >Host Routing Table > BB Menu key > Register Now

Anything?

You should also look at Options > Advanced Options > Service Books. Do you see a listing for PROVISIONING?

You should go the Verizon BIS site and resend the Service Books.

That's great the phone works now. Can you give us a hint what worked? It may help someone else experiencing the same issue down the road.

The BB Desktop Manager does have a Change Device Wizard, but I am not sure if the Dare is supported.

Do you use Outlook? That is really the best method to move contacts from device to device.

If you go to your Verizon store they should be able to move them for you. I have read that if you tell them you use Verizon's Backup Assistant web app and there is no way to move the contacts to a BlackBerry. They should waive the usual small fee ($10?). I can't personally vouch for that.

I do suggest you consider using Outlook in the future as it really does own the business market and I must say, I have been very pleased over the last 15+ years (?) using it. Yikes! Could it really be 15+ years?
