Default DM always wants to update 4.6 core apps

Everytime I use the app loader for adding or deleting apps the message "your blackberry device will be updated to onclude the following software: blackberry 4.6 core applications" wants to load. Therefore the app loading maneuver takes forever. I don't think this happened before I loaded .247 then .266 then back to .247. I'm wondering if this is normal? Anything I should correct correct (if so, how?)

corvid, did you delete the .266 OS from your computer and keep the .247 version installed on your computer?

Make sure you have installed .247 to your PC and check to be sure it is still there. Installing it on your PC is different from downloading it. Also check to be sure you have no other OS versions on your PC.

Thanks, SteveT, for your reply. I had already deleted .266 but still had .167. These are the steps I took based on your answer:

1. Deleted .167
2. Reinstalled .247 on the PC and chose the repair mode.

The DM still wants to load the 4.6 core applications update.

I noticed that in the Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs there are 2 "Blackberry Software v4.6 for the Blackberry 9000 Smartphone" listed there. Each has a different last used date and are slightly different sizes - one lists as "used frequently" and the other "used rarely". This is in addition to "Blackberry Desktop Software 4.6" and the "BB Software updater" that are there as well. Could this double listing be the culprit?

I'm now wondering if I should just backup, wipe, and reinstall the OS.

Or --maybe I'm being too nitpicky about this since everything seems to be otherwise working fine. Reloading the 4.6 core applications each time I open the DM isn't the end of the world.

Any opinions?

You only need one OS installed to your PC and it has to match exactly the OS installed on your BB.

Get that done and then test....

By Jove, I think you've got it!
But I'm unsure how to tell which is the exact one on my device. The used rarely, 99.38MB --shows last used on 5/27/09. The used requently, 84.88MB --shows last used on 2/15/09.

Your best guess which I should remove?
Worse case scenario I remove the wrong one and have to reinstall...

Go to the site and see if you can figure out which has what. Did you download one with the Media Sync app and one without or maybe one with Roxio and one without?

If you pick the wrong one worst case it should do the updates if needed and be done.

Are the file names and the platform versions exactly the same? Look at your BB > Options > About

If they match flip a coin and go for it.

You hit it right on. Many maneuvers, mistakes, and details later all is fixed. It did have to do with having 2 OS versions installed on my PC --.167 and .247. But I learned a lot in the process and feel more adroit with the device. Muchas Gracias!

Glad it worked out well for you and the education is a side benefit for you.

The more you learn about the BB the better off you will be and it is great to dig in like you did.....

Cheers!!!

Default Same problem here...

Hi there,

My first post here and it one with a problem:

I have the same problem as Corvid here:

Everytime I use Desktop manager on my (Dutch) Blackberry Bold I get promted to update the Core Aplication software 4.6. This version has been installed already a long time ago.
The software version on my device is 4.6.0.303. The Desktop Manager is 5.0.0.11.
So everytime I want to install software (or update) using the Desktop manager I get promted to update the core software which takes about 15 minutes and turnes off my phone for a while.
There is no other version of the software installed at my desktop.
It drives me nuts!

Hi wouterk and welcome to EB:

You say the OS version was installed a long time ago. Is that to your PC or the BB. Check as described above to be sure the version and package matches what is on the PC and on your BB. If it does, you may try deleting the DM and reinstalling to see if that corrects it. You could also try deleting the OS installed, download a fresh copy, let it update once if it prompts and see if the multiple notices stop.

If not the down and dirty way to stop it would be to uninstall the OS from your PC. You could download a fresh copy to the folder of your choice, but not double click to install it. This way you would have the OS if you need, but it won't be installed and the notices should stop.

Please visit and post often and thanks for registering....
