HELP! My OS upgrade failed halfway thru: NO PHONE SERVICE NOW

Guys, I have a real prob on my hands now. I was trying to upgrade my OS with the new official ATT upgrade earlier so I could get BB Maps to show back up on my phone. (The BB Maps thing is another story). So, I downloaded it from the ATT site and installed in on my computer. I then synced my Bold to the computer and opened BB Manager. It detected the upgrade and added BB Maps to install. So....I began the upgrade BUT....about 10 mins into it, I got a message that said FATAL ERROR: Upgrade couldn't finish; please try again.

This apparently happened after it wiped out my cell service, because now my phone's cell service is "off" and the BB Manager will not recognize the phone when I try to sync it. WTF IS GOING ON?!!!!! How can I get my phone service to turn back on? I know there's something I have to do to get it to resend the code OTA, but I can't remember what it is. Please help!

Not sure I understand...An OS upgrade failed, but you still have a working device except for phone service?

I am also not sure what code you are saying you have to resend.

If you had an OS upgrade fail your best bet may be to purge the device using JL_Cmdr and reload the OS over again.

Well, the only problem with trying to reload the OS is that BB DM doesn't recognize my phone now.

I have to agree with stevetaz with regard to using JL_Cmdr. When I upgraded my OS to a leaked version of OS 5 (threaded text messaging), I immediately wanted to go back to the way my phone was because some key applications I use weren't compatible with the OS. After trying to downgrade, my phone got all sorts of dysfunctional and it was suggested I use JL_Cmdr. It worked like a dream. At this point - what do you have to lose by trying it? There could be a variety of program code on the phone causing it to malfunction and for BB DM not to recognize your phone.

    Good luck.

I will probably go ahead and try that, but if I could just get the AT&T cell signal resent to my phone, then it should work again just fine. That's my only problem right now. Do I need to call them and request them send it, or do I call BB?

Well, I got lucky! I figured out how to turn my data service back on on the phone, so it works now. But...My Desktop Manager still won't recognize my phone, so I'm going to uninstall DM and reinstall it to see if that works.

I am still not quite clear on what actually failed. If the upgrade process did not complete there is a good chance there is a feature that won't work or you could have a failure in the future.

I suggest you try to see if the device is recognized by the PC in Device Manager (Windows, not the BB DM). Not the PIN, just that it is a removable disk. If it does you should be able to wipe using JL_Cmdr following these instructions.

Something is wrong that the device is not recognized by BB DM. I am assuming you are using a USB connection on the back of the PC, not a hub or a keyboard mounted port. Did you reboot the PC and then try connecting? Have you tried a different port on the PC or maybe another PC if available?

If you can't connect, you can't do a backup and that won't help you in the future.....

Me either, but the phone works again. My computer will recognize the phone plugged in. It brings up my E:/ and F:/ storage drives. The actual DM just doesn't recognize my PIN anymore.
