    Didn't work for World Edition

Not sure if this will work, but try:
Select the Media icon > BB Menu key > Receive via Bluetooth. Make sure you know where it is being saved. Open the VCF file received and you should (hopefully) get a prompt to add to contacts.

Please let us know if it works for you and if not where it fails....

It was promising as I was able to send the file from my Motorola V950 and it saved it as a .vcf but failed on opening the file.

    Any ideas?

Hi newts and welcome to EB:

Is it possible you actually saved a link to a web page or possibly an incomplete link to where a VCF may have been stored? That error message is usually associated with being unable to load a particular web page and the solution is usually to empty the Content Cache.

I can't say that I have heard of it occurring opening a VCF Card. I suppose it is possible the format of the card from the Motorola could be different from that used by a BB, but VCF format is usually universal.

Can you give any other details? Have you been able to open other VCF files sent to your device, possibly by different users? If not, do you have other friend who could help you experiment?

Do try to empty your Browser's Caches and see if that changes anything.

No, they were .vcf files with the correct name that were transfered. I thought maybe the first one which was 7k was confused by having a picture. I tried another without a picture which was 1k and it had the same results.

I can try more from my Palm but I have never had a problem going between Sanyo, Motorola and Palm devices before.

I just got the BB today so I am a complete n00b on them...

It seems like I am real close if I can get the vcf to transfer...

As odd as it sounds, do try clearing the Browser Cache to see if it might help...
Open your Browser > BB Menu key > Options > Browser Options > Cache Operations > Clear each

Sometimes the inter-connectivity of the various functions can cause odd results....

Only other suggestion I can offer at this point is to try attaching the vcf file to an email and see if that will give a better result.

If it does not, I have to wonder if the format is slightly different in the Motorola vcf.

Let us know what you find out and if it works, doesn't, if you get a different error, etc.

I am guessing you will have it installed by default, but check to be sure the BB Attachment Service is installed:
Options > Advanced Options > Applications > look for the BlackBerry Attachment Service in the list (4th or 5th down).

The attachment service is there. Dunno. I will play some more and maybe try it with my Palm tx but this is a work BB and I don't need too many contacts transferred.

I am really surprised that the BB would lack such a fundamental productivity feature. It seems a huge oversight and I can't see any reason to prevent it. Other phones have plenty of control on what gets loaded and the BB has controls for bluetooth discover, etc. Do they sell an app or phone thing that would lose sales if they made it easy to transfer from other devices?

Most transfers of contact information are done via Outlook and that is the way it was originally designed. Why vcf is such an issue with the BB I don't know, but it does seem to be a limitation with very limited workarounds.

Personally I don't really use vcf and I have only run into one vendor who sent me her card in the vcf format. I set all contacts by manually typing into the BB or into Outlook and those are wirelessly synced constantly as I am on a BES system.

You mentioned your BB is a work device. Are you connected to a BES server? If so, have you checked with your BB Admin to see if they might have pushed an IT Policy that may be blocking the transfer?

    Wish I could help more....

I can ask. I did notice the GPS is disabled. Who knows why they did that?

And I typically don't use .vcf directly as it is hidden by the other devices I have used. You do a simple "send contact by bluetooth" and the other device just accepts the contact info.

We don't use Outlook. It is used with Lotus so there might be a way to set up a contact list that way but that doesn't help me trying to get a dozen or so contacts from my personal phone to the BB.

Maybe they are afraid you will find a way to leave work?
