My thoughts on the (revised) OtterBox Defender
First, and foremost, Thank You All for your input to this thread.
I had been waffling on the Defender for a while now, and have previously tried:
1. Generic Silicone Skin: Nice feel, and durable, but doesn't fit a 'standard' Berry holster.
2. Incipio 'Feather': Nice fit in holster, and VERY Light, but Durability? Jury still out on this.
I have quoted several sources here and have taken "license" with the quotes. While in the truest sense, I take statements out of context, this is done ONLY to create a 'talking-point' and is in no way meant to provoke, flame or demean. I truly value the input and would not have been able to make a well informed buying decision without them.
Now, on to the Defender,
Got mine yesterday, and proceeded to put it through it's first 8 hour shift in a dusty construction environment. None of the calls I made or received, suffered from muffled voices on either end. Just for giggles, I streamed "Slacker Radio" over the on-board speaker, and it sounded fine.

I agree. I was pleasantly surprised at the size of the case, and the overall fit of the two case halves, as well as the skin. Also there's great 'tactile feel' when putting my Storm in its holster. 'Click' and It's Home.

Which leads me to an observation:
The revised design that I received, is no longer 'sealed.' The clear membrane protecting the touch screen is now glued to the case at the four corners, and open along the 2 longer edges. I assume this design change answers the 'hard to type in corners' problem, (Although, every so often I still encounter this) only now (IMHO) dust and moisture penetration has become an issue. Having said that, I'm not sure the trade off is worth it, but that's just me.

You may not make a habit of dropping your BB, but you know what? Accidents happen and the Otterbox gives you more than a fighting chance. <SNIP>
I had also heard good things from local "Berryheads" (One of whom pointed me here) about Otterbox Products, and I am, Overall, Very Happy with my purchase.
Would I Buy another Defender? You Betcha.

Hi cohawaiian and welcome to EB:
Thanks for registering and thanks for your detailed review. I am curious if you have written to the OtterBox people to ask about the revision they made and to inquire what the specific reason was?
If you have a concern it is possible they have already received a number of inquiries and they may be able to answer or let you know if another revision might be in the works.

Thanks Steve,
I did email customer support with my concern about the touch-screen membrane and will post back with their response / comments.

cohawaiian, welcome to EB and thanks for your detailed input on your experience with the Otterbox. I too am in the construction industry and have been using the otterbox for a couple months now on my Bold. While I don't usually like bulky cases, it is by far the best protection you can get for your device. I even had it fall off a scaffold from about 12 feet in the air and there was hardly even a scratch on the case.

OUCH!!
Glad to hear there was no damage to your Berry. A fall like that would have Totaled my old phone... I came to the early realization that I am 'hard' on equipment. That is the reason I wanted to find a suitable Cover/Case to protect my latest investment. I believe I have found it in the Defender.

I'm looking for a case similar in quality and protection to the Otterbox defender case for the blackberry storm. i'm not a fan of the silicone outer layer so i'm just wondering if there is a case out there that will provide similar protection without having silicone as part of the case.
