Default Been trying to fix a Curve for 2 days now.. any suggestions?

Hey all,

I've been searching forums and the internet for many hours and have tried every trick I've come across, but so far no luck.

I've got a Curve that won't boot up. After about 10 seconds of the white screen with the hourglass, I get an error saying "Uncaught exception: java.lang.NullPointerException", then "App Error 200". Won't boot to the OS.

I've ALREADY tried using the app updater in DM with and without the battery, javaloader.exe with and w/o battery, JL_Cmdr with and w/o, BBSAK with and w/o. The problem is I can't get the computer to recognize the BB.

It seems like in all of the other posts I've read people have gotten their computer to recognize it long enough for it to be wiped and reload the OS. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I've tried it on two different computers.

I'm wondering if someone has any other tips or tricks to get it going again. Or possibly if anyone that's fixed this before can give me advice on how they got it to work.

I would really appreciate any kind of help on this!

Have you tried this:
http://crackberry.com/blackberry-101...ked-blackberry

Follow the procedure to the letter, also if you have an updated Beta OS on you PC, mkae sure you delete the Vendor.xml file that is located on your PC in the following directory location:C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader

Good Luck!

Thanks for your reply!

I have tried that, the USB PIN thing never pops up, even for a second. I've tried plugging it in with and without the battery, taking the battery out and putting it back in while it's connected and app loader is still running, trying to plug the cable in half way instead of all the way.. the computer just never recognizes it's there.

The phone recogizes the charger and the sync cable, when I plug the sync cable in without the battery attached it turns on and comes up to the screen with the battery with the line through it. I just never get that split second opportunity to click next.

No hub, I have tried plugging it directly into two different laptops.

Do you have a beta OS version loaded on you laptop? Do you have more than one version loaded on your laptop?

I apologize, I'm not fully understanding the questions..

The laptop runs Win XP. I downloaded a Blackberry OS for the Curve, I think from Verizon website, I don't think it's a beta version. I'm not 100% sure though.

Do I have more than one version of what loaded?

OK sorry for hitting with multiple questions. Lets start at the beginning:
When you update a Blackberry with a new Operating system, you either update from the device itself or you download from your provider (Verizon) a released version. There are beta or unoffical OS versions in the wild that many people (including yours truly) will download and install on their Blackberry. When you have downloaded an OS on your laptop, you run the program and it first installs on your laptop. You say you downloaded an OS version for the curve, if you have a Verizon device, thats perfect. Check to make sure it installed correctly by going to your laptops control panel and then to add/remove programs, you should see a Blackberry Device Software version for your Curve listed, Is that the case? If you have more than one version, that could be the problem, if you don't have a Device software listed, that could be the problem as well. If you have Device software that was produced for another wireless provider and you did not delete the Vendor.xml file, the Apploader will not recognize your BB.

Thanks braxtoq...Excellent guidance.

Don't forget one detail....Downloading the new OS is only one part. The OS then has to be installed to the PC by double clicking it. Otherwise the DM or App Loader will not see it as an available upgrade.

You mentioned it in passing, but I am not sure the OP knows it has to be installed after downloading.....

Thanks guys, I did miss the step of installing the Blackberry OS onto the computer. I installed it (v4.5 official from Verizon web site) and it now shows up in the add/remove programs. I went in and deleted the vendor.xml file.

Unfortunately that did not seem to help. Still can't get the computer to recognize the Blackberry, even for a second.

This is so frustrating, I just can't understand why the computer won't see the phone.

Thank you for the tip of installing the device OS on the computer, that is a step I could see a lot of people missing.
