Struggling With Application Loader

Being a daft newy to the world of BB, I have another query. I downloaded some 3rd party applications via some of the links stevetaz was nice enough to find for us all. But as I said, being new, I cant get them from the computer to my curve. Yes I have installed the cd that came with my BB. It's supposed to b as simple as using the application loader, but I keep getting error messages Help anyone?

Hi:

Can you clarify the error messages you see and at what point they appear? Also, what apps are you trying to load? If you have a data plan often the easiest way to load apps is to use the OTA links from the handheld and install directly.

Sorry Steve mate; I forgot my own thread!!! I get the error message " There is an XML syntax error on line 1". I get that after I browse for the download on my computer that I'm after and select it. To be perfectly honest, I think that OTA download sounds the better way to go. The application I was trying to download from my computer to my BB, was one from gwhizmobile ( a JAD file). It's just got me stumped now. I will not be beaten by the machines!! The app is secondary; its now on principle that I want to be able to do it!

The XML syntax error....Are you trying to install a zipped file? You have to unzip it on the computer so the App Loader recognizes it. The files should then include ALX and COD files.

Additionally, make sure you have the current OS loaded and installed on your computer. Otherwise, Desktop Manager and App Loader won't detect the files to install.

I believe a JAD file is for an OTA install, not from the computer.

Forgot your own thread? Outrageous!!! BTW...Chris discovered that email notices of replies was not turned on by default originally, so you might want to check your settings to be sure you are notified via email when a reply is posted to a subscribed thread.....

You might also see the syntax error if you are trying to install the COD file. Try selecting the ALX one....

Thank you so much. I finally got it to work. I seriously did not know the simple facts that a zipped file must be unzipped and that a JAD file is for an OTA download. As previously stated, I am quite naive on a lot of this technology stuff. I am a fast and eager learner, and appreciate your wealth of knowledge as well as that fact that you are willing to share the wealth with those less learned! Will check the email notification
