Default Transferring line 2 calls to line 1

I cannot send text from my 888#,so another idea I have is to set up a "regular" number in the line 1 position and have the 888# on line 2. If I could then forward line 2 calls to line 1, this would solve my problem.

Thanks in advance.

You are trying to do something that is a bit out of the ordinary and I am not sure how many users you may find who have the same kind of set up.

Have you tried to discuss this with your service provider? I think I said in another thread that they should be able to tell you if there is an underlying "local" number their system forwards the 888 calls to and that may be the number that you could text from.

The same may apply here. If their system allows you to have both an 888 and a local number on the same device, they should be able to instruct you on how to forward to the other.

I still think that the provider should be able to handle much of your needs from within their systems and maybe it is simply a matter of getting the most experienced tech in their support division.

Keep us updated with any progress as this is an interesting situation.....

I believe Steve is right about a local number. Our 800 numbers are transferred or delivered over local numbers. So your 888 number should all ready be tied to a local number and that number not your 888 number should be on your phone. Or you could get a local number and have the 888 number auto forward to your local number...

Default Forwarding from 2nd number to 888#

Plunker
I have mentioned your suggestion of forwarding from the second number to the 888# to the carrier and the sales guy says it cannot be done. Do you know that it can?

Yes I do not know where you are getting your service for your 888 number but that number can be routed/ terminated on any local number. I had this done with at&t. These are phone companies not cell phone companies.

You need to talk to who ever provides that 888 number to you. If they can't help you you can go to a different company and see if they will let you forward or terminate on a local number.

I used at&t for two 800 numbers and had them changed to terminate on different local numbers. Who is providing your 888 number?

Just reread your post and I have not routed a number to a 888 number. You would have extra 888 charges (By the minutes used). You would want to only pay 888 usuage on the actual 888 calls. If you routed the local number to the 888 number you would be paying 888 charges for the local number as well as the 888 number.

When you buy an 800 service the number is yours as long as you want it. You can have it go to your business anywhere. If you move the business to another state you keep the same number it just terminates on a different providers local service. The 888 provider sets up where the number terminates for you. I hope that clears these posts up. Your cell phone would never know if it was forwarded to you or not because it shows up as just another call.

Default Solved the two number texting problem

A few of you kept saying to get in touch with the correct tech person. Well, I finally did at SoutherLink. I got a good one.

She put my 888# back in the number 1 position and put my local number in the number 2 position. All my calls go out and all call come in on the 888 number as they always did.

The small inconvenience was that I had to tell all my contacts to put a new number in their address books as "my name + Text" when they needed to text me.

It is odd that my 888 number shows up on my text messages to them, but this procedure is acceptable to me. If by chance I get a call on the second local number, it just goes to voice mail. As everybody knows my 888# that has not been an issue anyway.

I wanted to wait a month or so to make sure it was continueally working and that I could receive texts from many different carriers.

I am not sure exactly how to mark this solved, but it is

Thanks for your help
