Data Plan Needed?

I live out in the middle of nowhere and I am limited to what wireless carrier I can have, so I am stuck with Alltel. That being said I have had a treo for the past 3 years and I have really liked them. However, I believe Palms days are numbered and I have friends who own BB and love them.
My question, Can I have a BB without the Data Plan?
Before you jump the gun and give me an absolute NO, keep in mind I have never had a data plan with any of my treo's. And I have even activated them over the phone with Alltel. I bought the Treo's from non-Alltel retailers.
I know some of you would say "Why have a BB without data?"
I want to use the phone for calendar, contacts, to-do and some 3rd party software and really have no desire to look at the internet on a 2.5" screen. And my world is not going to crumble if I don't check my email every 15min.

Anyone have any luck with this I would appreciate a comment.

Take a look at this thread, post #2 and I think many, if not all of your questions will be addressed.

While many might wonder why a BB with no data plan, you have some very good reasons. And the Pearl is a great form factor too.
