Stevetaz asked about the memory card. I tried it in the beginning without any memory card inserted many times. I tried it once with the card, just to see if media manager would pick it up , and it didnt. I was thinking about it, the other computer I tried it on also ran vista. Maybe I can try again with a different operating system. I also thought about a power usb hub ? I bought the phone from a guy, so no warranty. I got 2 pearls for 80.00, so its not like I am out alot of money if this one is bricked (they both worked fine until I messed with them !). The other one is great

I had to take all of the security that Vista had built in to get my phone to work with the PC. Vista is not a good OS.
Try using a Window XP machine. Just hope you have a good friend who will let you do things or a family member? (Things = install the DM software)
Is there a repair shop close to you that will flash the phone for you cheap?
Just trying to throw out some ideas in the hopes something works for you.

I live in the sticks in oklahoma ! We have a walmart and a radio shack as our "electronic outlets", and an at&t store that sends all their phones out to be repaired. So no local options as far as a repair. I really think its just a vista issue. What if I rebooted my computer into safe mode and tried desktop manager ? Maybe with loading minimal programs, I could get a little flexability with vista ? thanks for all the suggestions everybody has replied with

I doubt that will work.
Just for "craps & kicks" can you try right clicking on the DM shortcut (On you desktop?) & try to run it as Administrator?
Or create a new user with Administrator privileges & see what happens.
And do you have the newest DM installed for your phone & not just the program that came installed on the CD?
And do you have all the service packs & updates installed for Vista?
