    Dead Pearl !

To make a long story short, I tried to upgrade a pearl to the 4.5 os, which I have done many times with no problems, till now. I cant get desktop manager (4.7) to recognize my phone. It accepts the connection under options, recognizes my pin, but under the device connected it shows none. I have tried all the fixes I could find online, trying every usb port (not hubs), different computers, wiping out the original os with JL commander, and reloading 4.5, then trying to put the original os back on, downgrading desktop manager, etc. I have gotten the os to load with apploader, but then got the fatal error at the end. With desktop manager, I get the unable to reconnect to the device during a multi-stage load operation. I thought I knew what I was doing, but obviously not ! But I guess we have all been there at one time or another, LOL ! As I said in the beginning, I have tried just about everything I can do without help from the pro's. I would welcome any suggestions anybody else might have. thanks in advance if anybody chooses to respond.

    Hi and welcome to EB:

Sorry for the trouble. Two questions....
    1) Have you been doing all the updating and purging with a microSD card installed? If so, try removing and see if that makes a difference.
    2) What exactly is the fatal error you are getting?

Its not specific. Just says this, when I can get the application loader to continue past the reconnection step, which has only happened a couple times out of a dozen tries.
'a fatal error has occured while updating your device's software. Please try again.'
Since then, the desktop manager has been unable to detect my blackberry even though the device manager can 'see it'. And have not had a sd card in the phone. I did try once with a card installed to see if desktop manager would connect with a sd card installed with no change in anything. thanks

Thanks ! Looks like a good place for blackberry fans.

I edited my post after realizing I didnt answer that one. No card installed, although I did try once with a sd card installed once, to see if desktop manager would recognize the phone, with no luck

So what do you see on the BB? Is it a white screen with an hourglass, is it blank or what?

Its dead unless I plug it into a power source. Then the red led lights up, and has a battery with a slash thru it. I wiped the operating system off, or at least I think I did anyway. When I hook it up to desktop manager with the original operating system ready to re-load, it says I am downgrading the os and gives me the option to keep the one I have. Makes me think the 4.5 os is still there ?

Just plugged it into a wall charger. The red led lights up once, it flashes white real quick, then its dead. Its when I plug it into the computer is when it stays on the white battery screen

Have you tried anything with the battery removed? If the process starts with no battery, when you see Device Initialization, replace the battery.

It is sounding like a power issue and could acually be at the USB port.

What OS are you using? Vista has some interesting power management controls and it is possible the power is being cut to the USB, especially if the device is not recognized when first plugged in. I don't have Vista to experiment, but try going into the power management function to see if there are settings that allow Vista to manage the USB port power and change to manual if you can.

I am assuming you have tried rebooting the PC to reset the USB ports....
