I got a new phone today.. that I'm NOT excited about.
Did you ever think you'd hear me say that? Yeah, me neither. I got a work issued Pearl today. It's not bad, but incredibly tiny. I asked if I could continue using my 8800 or Bold and well, access denied.
Dude.. I tried going on the internet on there.. WAY WORSE THAN THE 8800. No doubt.
Off to edit my sig.......

Probably because with a rebate it's free. The entire office got Pearl's. I'm getting used to the keyboard again, but it's way too small. My hands are too big for this phone. That's why I have no problems with "large" phones. Ex: Bold, 8800, iPhone 3G.
Sadly I need to use it for my work email (Exchange account on BES) and I can't set up the email on my BIS. Oh well.
P.S. it is Verizon. I'm kind of excited about that. Don't know why.

I couldn't go to a T9 device but MAYBE a SureType style like the Pearl. SureType isn't too bad.

You don't want to set up your BIS email on a BES device. Remember that the BB Admin can see everything done on a BES connected device. That includes BIS email, texting, Internet use and all.
You should also be thankful they didn't allow you to put your own device on their BES system for the same reason. Your device would in essence become theirs and subject to their IT Policy.
Of course this only applies if the BB Admin has the system set to log, save and decides to review, but the fact is they can do it.
Do you really want them knowing how often you are on EB and posting?

Damn, Steve. You make such great points. Okay, let me respond to these individually:

I wasn't planning on adding my personal email since I'm still going to keep my phone with me, but thanks though in case I ever want to. I completely forgot they could do that.

You should make a sticky about all of this! That's dangerous. Legally there would be nothing I could do? I mean, I know the people I work with, it's not the kind of corp. environment where they would claim my device even if it was on their BES IT policy, but still.

Ummm......See here
Corporate BES IT Policies
IT policies can be extremely tight, not allowing users to visit certain web domains, access types of domains such as streaming audio/video, not allowing Instant Messaging, etc. IT Policies can also restrict users’ abilities to add software to a company-owned handheld.
Be aware that if you wish to use your personal device on a corporate BES, you must obtain permission from the Admin. You must also be aware that if you do add your personal device to a corporate BES any existing IT Policy will be installed onto your personal device taking control out of your hands.
Note that anything done on a BlackBerry handheld connected to a BES system can be seen by the BES Administrator. That includes personal email, IMs (if even permitted by the IT Policy), websites visited, etc. You should remember that with a BES-connected BlackBerry, there is nothing private.
If this bothers you then do not place your private device on a company BES. If you need to have personal information kept personal then purchase your own BlackBerry and carry two, yours and the company’s.
Also keep in mind that many companies have policies that if an employee attempts to bypass the corporate IT Policy, that employee could be subject to discipline up to and including possible termination. Do not look for ways around a corporate IT policy. Get your own device and use it for your personal stuff. Unless, of course, you are looking for a career change.

What I meant was not that they would claim the device, but that they would control it as if it was theirs...

I've known about all the things you posted up above from the sticky. I was talking about the fact they could "claim" the device as theirs.
So, but even if they were to, nothing legally could be done? Just curious..
