Pearls, Curves, 8800s...They all experience this issue with OS versions 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3 I think. The phones are actually not "pieces of junk". The problem is the OS programming and the upgrade to OS version 4.5 is supposed to resolve this.
I don't think vVerizon has their official version released yet so perhaps that is what they are referring to when they say they are working on it. The OS can be found on the Internet and installed in your device, but it is not yet supported by VZW.

Tips and Tricks thread and follow #1 very closely. It will keep the problem in line and eliminate the need to keep changing handsets....A little time invested (10 -15 minutes once a week) will save you trips to the Verizon store. That will help the environment too!
