I realized the last post was in March, but I thought this might be of help if the issue is still being pondered.

I have a CDMA 8330 Curve on Sprint. It works very well. I have just completed the upgrade to version 4.5.0.33 supposedly beta. I first updated desktop to 4.5 then downloaded and installed the new device hardware. Took about 3 hours. When all the dust settled there was very little difference from the 4.3 that that was originally on the device. However, here is the important point for this post. I did have to re-register with the corporate BES. I noticed my device had been quite that morning (not usually a good sign) then checked for wireless sync option in address book (Thanks stevetaz, this tip came from you in a previous post) then I checked i options/enterprise activation and it stated not connected. Everything else, including contacts and proprietary Sprint media software reloaded and operate great.

Documents to go (D2G) works well. However it is less than expected coming off of same product on my previous Motorola Q using WM5. It will allow you to view documents that you have copied over wile device is attached to computer. It also initially only loaded word and power point. I then chose the 30 day demo of the premium edition ($69.99 after demo). this gave me Word, Excel and PowerPoint and the ability to create and edit documents. this is the real benefit. However I have not been able to use D2G for any attachments on any email either via my BES or 5 BIS mail boxes. On a side note, I have also not experienced the HTML viewing. It is my understanding that both of these features will not work until both BES and BIS are upgraded. I did read a post that BB BIS was to upgrade on 6/28 however I am still receiving plain text emails but have not retested D2G.

My data connections seem to run faster, especially while utilizing Opera Mini. Sprint TV, Sprint Music Store, All IM clients, imbedded playing of YouTube from BB Web Browser, GPS features worked great. All of which where on 4.3

    Two issues I have had:
    1. BlackBerry Web Browser runs much slower. Randomly disallows selection mode. I will be typing in a password field and then it cuts of and starts using web shortcuts (b goes to bottom, T goes to top etc). I have to clear mem on browser and reboot.
    2. I cannot select multiple messages any longer. Pressing "Alt" in message inbox does nothing.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi xion:

I hope all is well with you. I am excited you were adventurous and tried 4.5 and keep in mind, it IS beta. Vodaphone and a few other foreign carriers have released their official versions, but here it is not officially released. A few thought/comments/questions:

I think I warned someone about this. Maybe you? When the OS is altered you will have to reregister.

You need to be on BES 4.1.5 or BIS 2.5 to get the download feature fully functional. I believe RIM upgraded their systems this past weekend, but I am not sure if Sprint did yet. I will look around.

Not sure why the device has to be connected to the computer to view documents with the basic version. How did you copy them over? I would think you could use a reader and transfer to the micro SD card (you have one, right?) and then view on the handheld. The way around the inability to create a document is to email one (or a blank) to yourself, open on your device, edit and do a save as to the card. It must be nice to save documents and data to the card and I am looking forward to that.

Sheets to Go is available. If you follow the link in "Documents to Go" to download the trial of the premium version, it's part of it. You can use Sheets, Docs, and Slides as a standard/free version after that. You have the option to start using the premium as a trial, but I would keep it as the free version myself.

RIM did do the upgrade. Try resending your service books and it may take a couple of tries. Do keep this in mind about external images in HTML mail also: For security reasons, externally linked images must be manually retrieved using the menu key.

#1 - I haven't heard this before. Did you recheck your settings?

EDIT: Could the memory have been getting low and needed the battery pull?

#2 - Do you mean hold SHIFT and scroll to select multiple messages?

And xion, I wanted to thank you very much for taking the time to post that in-depth review of your experience for everyone.

I should have started my reply out with that, but I jumped in too quick.

I know it took some time and you are a real trooper for doing it. I hope you keep us posted as your trial goes along.

    Best regards,

Thank you so much for your help and kind words. Your input is always greatly appreciated.

I apologize for the brevity but it is late

    1. I resent service books and turned off BBSmartView. I am now able to download and open office attachments in Documents to go. Thanks.

    2. Emails appear to be rendering HTML but not quite sure. One HTML rich email seemed to render the code but did not display pics. But I will look into this tomorrow.

    3. I have rechecked all email and browser settings in the applications as well as settings in applications permissions. Still cannot select multiple emails. Before the 4.5 upgrade i just held down the "ALT" button above the Left "Shift" button, as the help states. But I have also attempted to use the shift the other shift and any combination but none helped. This is a high priority feature for me. However, I do consider myself lucky that this is the only critical error I have experienced. I had imagined loosing all of my proprietary Sprint software and an entire host of jvm errors. But actually if this is the only error I'd say it is a small price to pay. But it is still an important feature for me. help

    4. Internet is working fairly well. I did an "ALT LGLG" to clear the Event Log. as well as cache and history etc. I have attempted to enter a few fields and it seems to be working fine. But I will keep an eye on it.

Thank you as always for your help, and your complementary words. Nothing ventured nothing gained

Looks like Sprint's systems are ready for HTML mail. Take a look under the email options to see if now there is an option to select "Yes" for "Download Images Automatically" as well as "Enable HTML email". Also remember what I mentioned about external images: "For security reasons, externally linked images must be manually retrieved using the menu key".

I am still not quite clear on this. If I hold the ALT key and scroll, it skips to the bottom of each screen, but no emails are highlighted/selected. If I hold SHIFT and scroll, all emails from the start point and as I scroll are highlighted/selected.

You said you turned off BBSmartView. Isn't that a third-party email viewer? Perhaps having it installed, but turned off causes you to lose some features? Try enabling and see what happens.

As always, let us know what happens....

Yeah I have full HTML email, with pics just like you described. It appears all of my 4.5 features are working perfectly. I can download from email and side load via usb cable. Thank you so much for all of your insight.

I still can not select multiple messages.
I know what you are talking about. i do remember having blackberries that would scroll to top or bottom by holding alt and then using scroll wheel up and down to go to top or bottom. I do believe I used to hold Shift and then scroll to select multiple emails (on a 7100). However when I got my 8330 the help instructions in the phone and in the book said to hold ALT and scroll. It worked on 4.3. Pressing "T" goes to top, Pressing "B" goes to botttom, "P" previous day, "N" next day. All of these shortcuts work on 4.5 with the exception of the Alt & Scroll to select multiple messages. I am hoping there is a setting somewhere that I have not found that can turn it back on, and not just the single feature casualty of being a beta early adapter

Do you know of a setting that I could change to turn this back on?

Did you try reenabling BBSmartView to see what that would do?

Verizon Releases 4.5 for the 8130 Pearl

Looks like 4.5.77, which is a downgrade for me from the Alltell version I loaded, but I think I'll load anyway since its official!
