Depends on your ability to blend liquids. Of course, just twisting off a cap is always an option.

Need some help please. Picked up refurbished 8100 and 8120 online and both have issues I believe to operating system and I must not be doing something right. The 8100 has the red light flashing 3 times then 2 times in sequence continuosly. The battery is charged but cannot get phone to go on. Obviously do not want to send back with extra time and costs if it's something that is related to the os.
The 8120 constantly reboots itself and from what I've been reading, this is common and should be fixed with the new os.
In the Desktop Manager neither phones os is being recognized. What did I miss? How do I remove old operating system and install new? I have both new os on desktop but not being recognized in Desktop Manager. I am a newbie and would appreciate any help. Thanks

Hi and welcome to EB:
You like a challenge, eh?
Try this with the 8120....
We are going to use the AppLoader application, NOT BB Desktop Manager. With the BB disconnected from your PC, use Windows Explorer to navigate to your main drive (usually C Drive) and look for Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader. You should find the exe file for AppLoader. Double Click it to start AppLoader and after it opens, click Next. You should see a screen showing the Communication Port Selection and it will probably be showing COM 1.
You will now connect the BB to your PC with the USB cable. This could get a bit tricky, because at the exact moment you see COM 1 change to USB-PIN:UNKNOWN you must immediately click Next and that should trap the BB out of the continuous looping you have.
The AppLoader Wizard should now offer the option to select the application you want to install, which in this case is the OS you downloaded. The install could take from 15-45 minutes and should end with a "The Loading Operation Was Successful" screen.
The BB will reboot and you can disconnect the USB cable. Note that the reboot can take a very long time so don't get anxious and leave it alone until it is completed the cycles.
Let us know how you make out with this one.....

Can I use this method to upgrade my Blackberry Curve 8900 to 5.0 OS? There's a leaked version... (Am I allowed to talk about that?)

you are definitely allowed to talk about that. just don't post direct links to leaked OS downloads until the site admin says otherwise.

this article will tell you exactly where to get the 5.0.0.348, but be sure to read the disclaimer at the bottom, if you are inexperienced with this it can hose your device. also, these are not official release OS versions so the effect they may have on your device is unknown.

You don't seem to hold on to phones long enough to know what they can and can't do so I would not suggest you start experimenting with OS upgrades.
Have you even had time to know if there are issues with the standard OS and if the hybrids or leaked OS versions can address the issues?
Don't try upgrading just because the version number is higher so it must be better.
You might wind up making a paperweight out of your BB....
