All in all i would recommend keeping track of your useage under verizon still just to prevent them going into panic mode.

PdaNet is great if you dont wanna pay an additional $15 a month just to tether your phone and of course have unlimited data package on your phone.

I have no idea if they will enforce anything on the phone's data useage.

Maybe someday (4G) we will all be able to have truley unlimited access again.

Last night I bought a BB Storm under Verizon service, and having been a longtime user of PDANet on my Treo 750wx I was eager to give the BB version of PDANet a shot. To my disappointment, the service is quite bad bordering on unusable compared to what I had with my Treo. Web pages were not consistantly displaying entirely either. I'm hoping that V1.20 still has "issues" and that it isn't a problem with the Storm. The Storm works just fine otherwise, so I don't really have any reason to suspect a problem there.

I'm using the BB Desktop Software 4.7.0.32 (Nov 4, 2008) (seems a bit old to me!) and PDANet 1.20. I'm using it via USB cable. If anyone who's reading this has any ideas or has experienced the same issue with the BB Storm, let me know. I've got 30 days to take the Storm back or elect to go the $15/mo route. Neither is appealing to me.

    Thanks!

    Mike

I used PDANet on my Motorola Q for years and worked great. Sometimes I got really great speeds and sometimes not. But since I am taking online college courses, I MUST have internet access for my computer.

Now that I have Storm, I have tested PDANet on it. I emailed JuneFabrics as soon as I got my Storm months ago and they sent me a link to download their beta version. I seems a little bit slower than when I used it on my Q, but JuneFabrics said that was because it was a beta version and had debugging turned on.

The full version is now available and I have purchased it and tried it out some last week. I really didn't see any issues with it, other than being a little slow. I get really bad reception anyways in my office and that is where I tested it out on my laptop. But again, I do not care what speed I get using the PDANet program, I just am happy to have internet connection for my laptop for my college classes

I love PDAnet. If you use it, never tell a VZW rep that you are. Like others, I have the most experience with PDAnet on a Q. I was never charged any overage and used the Hell out of it. I didn't know there was a version for Blackberry. I'll have to hook it up.

I also just downloaded and installed PDANet for use with my Storm, and I'm experiencing the same thing. Trying to bring up Facebook pages (Mob Wars, Fish Wrangler) and the header displays, but the content of the pages does not. I've tried waiting, refreshing, opening a new page, but nothing seems to work. Other websites seem to display properly, so I'm not sure what the problem is...anyone?

Hi jetalc and welcome to EB:

I am assuming you are using PDANet to avoid VZW's software and charges for tethering. I am not a Storm user, but I am wondering if VZW has some kind of blocking system or restrictor on their 3G systems.

Maybe you could try out TetherBerry using the free trial to see if that makes a difference?

Thanks, Steve - those pages all came up after downloading the free trial of Tetherberry!! PDANet still hasn't responded to my support inquiry regarding why Facebook and other pages weren't loading completely, and now I don't need them to - Tetherberry works TONS better. And no, I don't work for Tetherberry. I didn't realize Tetherberry also had a free trial, and after being able to test-drive it, I'm gonna buy it.

Glad to hear it worked for you. TetherBerry did not offer a free trial for a long time and I think it hurt them. They did offer a money back guarantee, but I think users like to try before buying.

You are now positive proof why TetherBerry's decision to finally offer free trials is a good one....

Thanks for letting us know about your experience....

Now, if TetherBerry could get their Mac program to work. Maybe one day.
