I am surfing google for a few free themes for my blackberry curve 8900 since the default ones look horrible. Anyhow, I found two that are the best, I've seen like fifty but those two are seriously the best. First, the Apple OS X (Leopard) theme which I successfully installed OTA (Over-the-air) since the link was free; I was also able to find free Inspirat theme (black, red, and light), however, they are .rar files (not OTA) and I don't know how to install them on my device. I tried Pocket Mac > Utilities > Add software to device, but that didn't work because the theme's extension is .thm and I guess the only one that works is .jad? I'm not sure.
If you guys have any free OTA Inspirat theme, please post the link here.
or if you can, there is also another theme that looks absolutely fantastic - http://www.elecite.com/Themes/Ulterior.html which is the theme of the up-coming Alienware phone running Android.
rar files are simply a compressed file, similar to a zip file and there are converters that will extract the alx, cod and jar files. This is one and it appears there is a MAC version. I am not a MAC user so I can't help with that.
However, I was under the impression you can't do any software, theme, etc. installation using anything but a PC and BB DM or BB App Loader. I know PM includes that installation feature, but many can't get it to work. Maybe you will be one of the lucky ones.
OTA is really the best way for all formats, but not all apps and themes have OTA available and if you are requiring free that limits the pool even more.
If you have access to a PC you might consider it or run Parallels or BootCamp on your MAC. Here is our sticky about the various methods of installing apps and themes.
Let us know how you make out. It will be good to get some feedback from a MAC user as we only have a few frequenting the boards......

Yes, I do have Windows Vista on another partition, installed it through Boot Camp, of course. Parallels and VMWarefusion aren't good, I don't like running another operating system virtually, as the Windows OS is usually slow that way. Some CD came with the BlackBerry called BlackBerry User Tool, both a Mac and a Windows version, but unfortunately it just doesn't work or something. It opens a blank window with the "close, minimize, maximize" buttons and that's it.
I know what a .rar is and how to extract it, I use iArchive (Mac) and WinRAR (Windows) for that. I just don't know how to install the .alx, .jad, .thm, etc. extensions to my blackberry. That is why OTA is the best way, where you can just type up the URL and hit he Download button.
That's what I use to sync contacts, calendars, etc. (http://www.blackberryinsight.com/200...uter-mac-os-x/) and I read instructions on how to install themes and applications, but sadly that didn't work. I clicked Utilities > Install Software to Device (or something similar to that) > browsed for the .jad file but it wasn't even accessible (clickable) as though it isn't the right format for the 8900. That's why I like using OTA. I found a site that has a lot of OTA themes, applications, etc. for FREE but sadly I couldn't find the Inspirat theme there; I gave up!
PS: If you ever want to try like an experiment or something on a Mac when you don't have any around you, you can PM me and I'll be glad to help you out.
I'm not sure if I posted that on EiC but I don't like Blackberries in general. I was eager to try at least one of the new ones that I read good reviews about, and that's the only reason why I bought the 8900. And since I already have one, I already feel like selling it and buying a Playstation 3 or Xbox 360, don't know which one I should buy.

thought i saw somewhere in off topic where you said that.
so if you sell the 8900 what phone are you going to?
I already have a N95 and a N81, I'll rely on one of them till I get more money and buy a new Nokia. Seriously man, I've tried every brand there is in Egypt - and even iPhone 3G before it came to Egypt - and I've never liked any more than Nokia. So I guess I will buy a good one like a 8800 Arte which looks awesome but I hope it's not too expensive. I won't care about performance any more, I've tried the best phones in the market and performance doesn't even matter, so I'll just head to the appearance!!

I'd stick with the N95. Maybe the N86 8MP. I just haven't seen any phones that have improved upon the N95 in the last couple years. I like the N86 for the camera, but Symbian has become so stale. I got an N97 to play with and there is nothing that it can do other than the nice widgets on the screen, that my N95 can't do. Picture quality is exactly the same if not a little worse than the N95. The touch screen is horrible. Well, the screen itself isn't bad but Symbian in its current state is not a touch friendly OS. I expect so much more of Nokia and am really disappointed with them right now. If you are patient, the successor of the N97 next year is supposed to have whatever new version of Symbian that Nokia is supposed to be working on. I'm done with Nokia until then!
right now I'll just rough it with my Bold/iPhone 3gs combination. The Bold's email can't be beat for work, and the iPhone 3gs is almost there. Really impressed with the hardware upgrades. If they can just get those remaining things out of the way such as multitasking it could be my only phone.
One more thing, why the heck can't Nokia update that email client. Nokia is the only smartphone that doesn't show HTML in their emails. so annoying!
I'd never buy a Nokia touch screen. I've tried the 2006 old one, and I have also tried the 5800 express music, they both suck ass. The only Nokia phone I am eager to buy is the Nokia E72 (which is the successor to the E71). It sounds like it's going to be a really good phone, let's just hope it isn't released as expensive as the N97 which is not worth it.

yea, the E72 sounds hot. Although I don't like Nokia's QWERTY layout with the z key being directly under the A key. biggest complaint with the E71 was the camera and lack of a 3.5mm jack (and of course Nokia's crappy email app). It was the absolute best looking phone I've ever had though. I'm hoping nokia learns from their mistakes with the 5800 and N97. I had the 5800 for three days and it was the worst phone i've had. N97 is better. I love the capabilities of their phones but they have just become a PITA to use.
