Take a look at this site that deals with a VZW Storm used on TMo and includes instructions. You are not the only one who has done this, but I have no personal experience to pass along.

That site has generic Service Books you can download....

The YouTube error and the email issue could be due to the type of Service Books you need...

Dial ##000000 and press send. To change the My Number part, go to Mobile Directory Number, change that to your number and then press the BB/menu button and select Save. Allow the device to reboot itself.

hi,
I just purchased a BB Storm unlocked and I"m using it outside of US (so i'm not using Verizon services).

faced some issues appreciate your help. Thx.

1. when I try to setup my email at the device I"m getting only one option of "I want to us a work email account with a BlackBerry Entrprise Server" and I want to use my privet emails (hotmail, Gmail etc). how do I change it?

2. from some resone I don't have any browser app at my device, any Idea how do I get it?

3. Can I change the startup screen (after reboot) from Verizon to something else?

Thanks a lot,
MDL

Hi mdl and welcome to EB:

First, what carrier are you using and do they support BlackBerrys? Second, assuming the carrier supports BlackBerry, did you sign up for a BlackBerry Data Plan with BIS service? The BB Data Plan is different than a standard data plan. Without it the device will work as a telephone and you will be able to send and receive SMS text messages (if the carrier includes with your plan), but many of the BlackBerry features will not function such as email, the BB Browser, BB Messenger and others.

I don't know which Storm you have. If you have WiFi you can possibly access the Internet by installing thrid-party browsers like OperaMini or Bolt. If you have that ability then you could access gMail and YahooMail through Web access.

Here is a link to the sticky on How To Set Up Email On A BB.

Your questions:
1) If you are on a BB Data Plan and do not see the option to set up BIS email accounts, then visit your carrier's BIS site and set up the accounts there. If you don't have a BB Data Plan you cannot access email in the BlackBerry way.

2) If you have the BB Data Plan it is possible you can't get the proper Service Books if your carrier doesn't support the Storm. Let us know the answers to my questions above.

3) Can't do. This is embedded in the hard programming and cannot be changed.

I hope you enjoy your time here at EB. Visit and post often and thanks for registering.....

Thanks A Lot Steve for the quick and clear answers.
greate site with a lot of information and good support especially to someone new to BB.

you manage to answer 100% of my Q. Thx.

p.s.

I"m have Storm 9530 and I didn't ask my carrier for any special support or change to BB data plan (they have the BB support abilities) previously I used the internet with other device over GPRS with Opera with simple data plan.

Thanks
MDL

mdl, if you have a VZW Storm there is no WiFi, but you could try installing OperaMini to your BB to see if you can get an Internet connection through the standard data plan you have.

It might work....Still won't give you the BB Features and programs, but that mey be something that could work for you. Just make sure your carrier isn't going to send you a bill for excess usage or for using a BB on their standard network.

Worth a try. You will have to download the application to your PC and install using the BB Desktop Manager because you will not be able to do Over The Air installation of applications....
