V 5 trouble locking up
I just updated to v 5 for the second time and my storm keeps freezing up. It will work for phone apps. But if I try to text or use any of the apps it will lock up and I have to remove the battery and reboot . Am I the only one with this problem?

V5 lock up reply
Steve:
I’m sorry that it has taken me so long to return to the post. I’m on Verizon and as far as I can tell the version is 5.0.0. I have tried to update tree times now with the same result. The phone works just fine for a little while then it will start to lock up, if I try to use any of the functions. I have even tried to reload v 4.7 and then reload V 5 again but with the same result. The phone I have is a referb from the Verizon store, I don’t know if that will have any bearing on anything or not. I’m very frustrated, I like the new V5 but don’t seem to be able to run it.

Go to your Options Icon > About and look for the full version number that will start with a v, such as v5.0.0.328. Note that this will also be followed by another set of numbers in brackets, but that is the Platform Number, which we don't need. By the way, the .328 is the most recent Verizon branded version of 5.0.
How did you do the upgrade, on the PC? If so, can you find the full file name (should be visible in BB Desktop to make sure you didn't get the 9500 version instead of the 9530 version or worse, the version floating around for the 9550.

I would also suggest that if you keep reloading the same file you originally downloaded that you delete that file and download a fresh copy to install. It is possible you have a corrupted file.

The version is 5.0.0.328 and it says that it is for the 9530. I will try reloading the file. Should I just downgrade to 4.7.0.148 then upgrade again to 5.0.0.328 or is there a better way to get there?

You will have to delete the OS from your PC and downgrade the BB to a previous OS. Otherwise the BB will not "see" anything that qualifies for upgrade.
After deleting the current OS 5.0 file and downgrading to 4.7 you will have to download and install the 5.0 file to your PC. Then you can proceed with the upgrade using the newly downloaded OS file.
A clean install could be done, but you would have to wipe everything from the BB using JL_Cmdr and that would be way too involved to give directions now. You could Google it to see what you get, but you should try the fresh download and upgrade route first.
If that doesn't resolve the error you are getting then we will have to look at wiping everything and starting from scratch.
