Default Where did all my memory go?

Where did all my memory go? I have a specific set of applications and PIM info that I have transferred between multiple devices over the years. I have measured this data to take up approximately 64mb of flash RAM on the device. On the 8330 of the 96mb or flash ram it brought me down to about 32mb of avail flash ram. 25mb to 35mb seems to be the threshold on most Blackberries before we get large lags, extended hourglass and freezing issues. So I went to the 8350i that had 128mb of flash ram. True to the math i had about 64mb left over. My lag and freezes reduced dramatically. The 4.6.0.204 os ran smoothly. I upgraded to the Tour on July 17th which is stated to have 256mb flash, so I should have about 192mb of ram leaving plenty for the os 4.7.1.40. BUT instead i only have 73.1 mb, just barely more than the 8350i that has half the memory. I am experiencing lags with no hour glass, hour glass lags, OS freezes requiring batt pull and delays in sending bbm. I have removed demo video, reduced my standard data pack, disabled content compression and protection and done multiple battery pulls. I still can not get more than 83mb, but then it drops back down to about 73mb. HELP. How do I get my 192mb of memory back? I need my device to stop with all the stalling and freezing. This was the main reason I upgraded to the 9630 Tour.

Hi Xion:

Not sure what is going on with your BB, but I am also not sure that you are really missing all that much. The OS probably uses between 100mb - 130mb. Add your 64mb of your measured package and you would have about 56mb-86mb left. At least that is the way I would see it.

I think the 8350i OS was about 70mb and add the 64, you would have been at about 134, more than the stated 128mb, so I am not sure about what it means.

As far as I have seen the BBs tend to get laggy with the hourglass appearing when memory gets down to 10mb - 12mb, but that could be the older OSes.

What I am wondering is if something in your data package has either corrupted files or is possibly designed for an older OS and may be stalling on the updated one. Not all apps and data written under older OSes are compatible for every newer OS, but again, we would have to go through each and see what we can figure out.

Any way you can do a couple of things:
1) List each app you have and include the versions. Could be there is an updated version for the Tour.
2) Try loading individual apps and/or data to the Tour to see if lagging begins at any particular point.

That may be a little tedious, but it might be the best way to try and diagnose this.

I would love to try and help.....

If there is another post I should be reading please point me there.

I am very new to the BB world. I have a 4GB memory card. I’m curious other than my music, video, and photos is there something else I should be saving to the card to conserve memory on the device?

Hi:

As I indicated in this thread, take a look at those links and information and then post in one place if you have additional questions.

This is an example of why cross posting is not good. I already replied there....
