Customers given the choice of WiFi would not have to sign up for expensive data plans. Not all users sign up for unlimited plans and WiFi is a way to trim back the need for unlimited data.
Calls can be made for free using UMA over WiFi. What would that do for Verizon's income?

Thanks Steve for telling us that. That makes a lot of sense.

That is a very good point. Does VZW not expect users to come close to the 5 GB data cap? Believe it or not, I actually hit 5.2 GB on AT&T last month via my iPhone. Heavy ORB use and streaming/downloading of podcasts and music.
As devices get more data intensive, it will become easier to encroach upon that data limit. LTE is a good example.

Welcome to EB Neutrino.
Did AT&T hit you for an extra charge for the .2mb overage?

WOW. That's a lot of data.
Welcome to EB.
So far, for my current billing cycle, I've used 30 MB of internet. (Checked last night)
I'll be keeping and eye on that, just to see how much I use.

Not yet. But, for the last 3 weeks, my 3G speeds at my work location where I do my heaviest streaming have averaged less than 100 kbs. I get home, or go away on travel, and my 3G speed average around 500 kbps. Could be network issues, or selective throttling at tower locations.

I guess that's why the contracts never guarantee full access, specific speeds and such...

Hopefully, with two unique devices running on two different networks, I'll get some of those gaps covered!
