You mean first Wi-Fi BlackBerry device, right? I don't think your theory sounds very stupid (they'll eventually have a BB with Wi-Fi), but I doubt Verizon will be getting the 8520. I don't think Verizon (or Sprint for that matter) have had an XX20 device. I could be wrong on that though.

I meant first Wi-Fi device. Don't know if there maybe some sort of language in the exclusivity deal for the Storm between RIM and Verizon. If there is something in there, then yes I did.

True, but you never underestimate the power of the dollar.

Steve, you were curious how the new optical sensor works right?
If you check out this link there's a review and video of it in action.

I know, but someone had to bring up black helicopter talk about this. Just trying to be provocative, and open up discussion on this topic. Obviously, no one outside of some RIM exec's probably know where it will go.

Huh? All it means is that they will make an 8530 CDMA version.....Eventually....
RIM seems to view CDMA users as afterthoughts at times with the Storm being a notable exeption. Maybe the success of that will get them to push out new models for Verizon/Sprint and other CDMA carriers faster than they have in the past.
Same with OS updates....GSM first and then, oh yeah we have phones with that other technology...

Looks like a pretty nice "budget" BB. I would also like the optical trackball...
Thanks Sav...

Yeah, I know about the release of GSM devices, then eventually their CDMA cousins. But you do have to wonder, with the release of the Storm, and partnership with Vodafone, has Verizon learned that GSM is the wave of the future, and that CDMA is going the way of the do-do?

Budget BB... Spot on, IMO. It apparently has some parts carried over from the old Curve like the screen and camera. Personally, I can "see" how it's supposed to be a lower end handset. I really dislike the fact that it has no flash and the sides have that rubbery finish. The only "cool" thing I've seen about this phone is the optical sensor, which supposedly has issues when in very bright light, but no occurrences of that have been reported with the 8520. Just something in general about optical sensors.

i love the optical sensor. The Xperia had an optical trackpad like the 8520 and i really preferred this over a trackball. i'm really tiring of the trackball on my Bold. it seems to get stuck all the time.
