Can you Install apps on memory card?

I know from the WindowsMobile and PalmOS days you could move apps to the storage card to conserve space (and some apps were huge anyways) but when you install an app onto you BB their is no option on where to install. So can you and if so how.

Well I found the answer and it is NO. It seems RIM thinks we are not secured enough from ourselves that you cannot store email, attachments or apps or anything else beyond movies, music and pictures on your storage card.

My take is RIM needs to recognize that BIS users are NOT the same as BES users and we demand the option. That and they need more memory and faster processors on their devices. Email is great but you need speed too.

With Palm, sometimes those apps don't run as expected from the card. I agree, it should be up to the end user. This could be RIM "protecting the user experience". As far as processor, I think the Curve is very fast. Then again, I haven't dabbled much in third party apps. From an email perspective, it's rockin'. This being my first foray into BlackBerry devices, I'm mightily impressed. I'm guessing my frustration could start when I start to expect the same expansion capability familiar to Palm OS and Windows Mobile.

I have to agree Chris it is a pretty sweet email device and so far so good. I would like to see more options out there and of course more MAC OS support of course we know Apple is doing as little as possible especially now with the iPhone.

For me, I love the email aspect of the Curve. I have 5 email accounts set up and it's great when I'm on the go. The OS works fine, but doesn't have the pizazz of Palm OS, Windows Mobile and of course OS X. I have a DELL I purchased to run a few PC based programs (haven't jumped to Mac Intel yet) and it works great with the Curve. I did try PocketMac and had trouble (might be due to using a third party USB cable). I'm on Leopard. I'll probably try again today.

Apple certainly isn't going to help out other manufacturers now that the iPhone is in full swing. Funny, iSync works with all types of pedestrian phones, but no smartphones (outside of the Palm OS).

    Hi and welcome to EB:

Is Rove File Manager the one you are talking about? If so, that was discontinued September 16...

That was simply a file manager that would allow manipulation of files. You can store anything on the card, but the applications cannot be installed to run on the card....At least not yet.

    Did you mean something else?

Actually, I'm new user for blackberry and i haven't tried to install anything on my hand held. I did search some websites and i found two 3rd party software for that. rove file manager is one of them, the other one is efile manager. I'm now on my business trip and i didn't bring my data cable, so i can't install it yet. Anyway, thx for your infos about rove.
