I am not a user of all things Apple, so I am posting the following based on user comments around the web:

AS WITH ANY NEW PRODUCT, MAKE SURE YOU DO A COMPLETE BACKUP OF ALL YOUR IMPORTANT DATA AND APPS BEFORE YOU START USING THIS NEW BB DM FOR MAC.

Here are some of the cautions and advice I saw so far from a user at BB Forums:
-Make sure Sync Services is turned on in Entourage or it won't work.
-I also exported all my contact data first from Entourage then deleted it before I did my 1st Sync just to avoid any duplicate entries.
-I then made sure my address book (Mac Program) on my Mac was clear as well.
-When I did my 1st Sync I made sure to select MERGE DATA. This took all of my data off my BB and perfectly placed it in my Entourage program.
-ALSO MAKE SURE BEFORE YOU SYNC YOU DO A COMPLETE BACK-UP.

Oh, and did I mention YOU SHOULD DO A FULL BACKUP OR MAYBE TWO BEFORE YOU TRY THIS?

Also saw these cautions/tips:

Before Starting anything:
-Make sure you have a good backup of all your important data and apps.

Error Message saying to sync again:
-Trash the following file: user>library>application support>blackberry
-Restart the computer, run repair permissions (to be safe) and try again.

And this if nothing is syncing:
-The default is set to sync nothing. Seems rather odd to me.
-In the BB Desktop settings (Advanced?), you must select "Two-Way Sync" for each item you want to sync including Contacts, Calendar, etc.

General Sync Errors:
-Be sure to un-install PocketMac and/or Missing Sync.
-Be very careful to connect directly to your Mac, not through a USB hub or keyboard/monitor USB port. This is similar to PC requirements too.

From BlackBerry.com...:
"Persistent Store Migration Failed" error message is received upon opening BlackBerry Desktop Manager

Cause
Updates from previous versions of BlackBerry Desktop Manager are not supported, and will generate this error message.

Workaround
The following workarounds are available when running into this error:
Option 1
-Navigate to <User>/Library/Application Support/
-Delete the BlackBerryDesktop folder.
-Empty the Trash Bin.
-Restart BlackBerry Desktop Manager.

Option 2
-Double-click the BlackBerry Desktop Manager .dmg file to mount the disk image.
-Double-click the BlackBerry Desktop Manager Uninstaller to remove BlackBerry Desktop Manager from the Macintosh® computer.
-Reinstall the BlackBerry Desktop Software Manager on the Macintosh computer.

Bit of an add on here Steve. Move it if you need to. Once you download the DM, and if you have tethering through your carrier, you can now tether via USB. You are now not limited to Bluetooth tethering. The setup is the same for either USB or Bluetooth. It provides a faster and more reliable connection.

The leaked version was better than the official version, IMO.

While continuing to use my leaked version, I got a notification that an update was available, so I said why not and updated.

The official version made syncing painfully slow. It was decent with the leak.

This is just my experience so far with DM for Mac.

Default DM for newer OS versions only?

Does the leaked version work with Mac OS 10.4 or Tiger? The newer one downloaded but would not install because it says my computer needs to be running 10.5 or Leopard

Hi tilamarie09 and welcome to EB:

I am not a Mac guy, but I believe you have to have either Leopard or Snow Leopard in order to use the leaked beta or the final release.

Note that leaked betas are generally preproduction versions and really don't differ too much from the core product, but there are tweaks that will be done. The required OS is not just a tweak. That would be a complete overhaul or the code.

I hope you enjoy your time here at EB and that you visit and post often....
