Default iTunes and converting to .mp3

This is not necessarily a Mac and BB question but a iTunes and BB question, I just have a Mac.

Does anyone know why iTunes does not convert to .mp3 anymore? In Preferences>Advanced there used to be a tab select which type of burn you wanted, not anymore...

Anyone have any ideas or programs to do it?

I don't know for sure, but if I had to guess, it's to dominate the market with ipods. Haven't seen anything to convert.

i use MediaCoder (pc).. not sure about Mac but you can burn the tracks to a virtual audio cd (i use NoteBurner) and then import into iTunes as mp3..

I am not sure why iTunes didn't convert it to mp3. But you can always use other softwares to do that. The new QuicktimeX might be able to help you out.
