SteveTaz's Bathroom Remodel Thread...
Hey, I deserve a thread even if no one else cares...
Here is where it will start, with what I had written in Geekster get-better-thread.!! Thread On 4/10...
Taking it down to the studs and starting over. Same size and basic layout, but removing the fiberglass tub and surround and putting in a real bathtub (no whirlpool or spa) with a porcelain tile (with glass tile insets) surround and a porcelain tile floor.
I am crushed right now though. It took me three weeks to decide on the vanity. Ordered it and was advised it would be delayed by a couple of weeks, but they did a nice thing discounting and offering expedited shipping when available at their cost....all you would hope for, right? Just yesterday they advised the manufacturer will now be delayed until June. They offered the discount and upgraded shipping toward something else or if I want to cancel they understand. It is just that this was the only vanity that caught my attention and I don't know what to do now. Waiting until June is tough as I wanted to finish this before the daughter came home from college for the summer.
Here is the unit to give you an idea of my taste. It is made by a company in Australia and there are only two distributors in the US that carry it. 100% wood (not that MDF or laminate crap) and looks like a top quality vanity with vessel sink and faucet included at a very attractive price.
The main fear is that as June approaches, what if the manufacturer then says not until July or it is discontinued?
I already paid for the tile and it is in the garage, the new vent, light, heater fan assembly arrived yesterday, the new window was ordered and is due in next week.

Update To Vanity Saga...
Started to search around for a different unit as it was looking like I wouldn't get it in a timely manner. Same results though; I couldn't find anything I liked as much for that bargain price and I was torn with what to do. And then came Friday and an update from the vendor...
The vanity was being prepped to ship to me!! This is after I was told the new order was on a ship steaming its way to California and it would be arriving in Cali around May 18.
I called and was told, by a very embarrassed Office Manager, that they actually had my unit pulled aside with my name on it, but when they went to check for inventory, one hand didn't know what the other was doing.
I suppose my conversation with the site owner helped to nudge things along, but who knows..
Anyway, I should get the tracking info Monday or Tuesday and delivery in 7-10 days (and that is the expedited version). Must be two guys on Segways carrying it!
Today I picked up the bathtub, toilet, sheetrock, plywood, cement board, adhesives and 250' of 12-3 wire to run new power lines for the fan, heater and lights...Still lots of crap to buy though. I will be adding it up later, but I think I am at about $3200 for just materials and most were discounted.
Target to start is now on or about April 27....Oh boy....

You are the mod. I don't think anyone will say you don't deserve it.

That would be a tough commute up to you from LI just to paint....But thanks for the reminder. I have to pick out the paint color and buy that too.
Benjamin Moore all the way....

Steve, excellent choice on the vanity. Very very nice.

And as said you deserve a thread... You seem allround (as am I, but time and energy isn't always available), in the motherland if you rent/buy a house/apartment it's as is, so usually you paint, remodel, put up wallpaper & the whole spiel, and since labor isn't cheap I did almost everything myself.. As my dad says "I can make anything, even a chicken if you provide me the feathers" :}
Curious about the results steve.

Hey, Steve, when you get done with the remodel, are we going to see pictures? After seeing that vanity, I am curious how the total design is going to be. I can imagine it will be really nice.
